Teresa Baydoun | Business Administrator

Teresa Baydoun

Business Administrator

Working directly with the COO, Teresa leads business operations, including human resources, finances, and payroll. She brings a customer service focus to Zaman with over 30 years experience in management/customer service. Teresa has a strong sense of commitment to the nonprofit sector having volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America for the last 20 years. This experience has given her an appreciation for the work accomplished by a nonprofit organization and a desire to work with Zaman, helping others. Teresa has a certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of Minnesota. A native of Michigan, she enjoys baking special occasion cakes, gardening, and boating with her family.

Monica Boomer | Chief Impact Officer

Monica Boomer

Chief Impact Officer

Monica works in all aspects of Zaman’s public facing work from fundraising and donor relations to community engagement, events, and communications. In coordinating efforts with more than 500 partner organizations and over 5,000 volunteers, her work is essential to ensuring Zaman has the greatest possible impact. Monica came to Zaman International in 2011 with extensive academic and practical experience in local youth peacebuilding initiatives and international women’s rights campaigns. She has traveled and lived extensively throughout the Middle East through undergraduate and graduate study abroad programs and a year-long Fulbright Fellowship. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. 

Reyad Mallad | Facilities Manager

Reyad Mallad

Facilities Manager

Reyad oversees management of the 40,500-square-foot Hope for Humanity Center, which plays an essential role in Zaman providing the holistic, person-centric support the organization is known for. He joined Zaman as the facilities manager in 2014 after four years of volunteering and continues to lead the construction of the expanded client corridor as the organization builds out health and childcare amenities. Reyad has a long history in warehouse and supply chain management and holds a degree as a Muslim Chaplain from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit. Reyad has a passion for life, helping people in need, and playing golf.

Maya Mortada | Director of Health Services, MSN, RN, CPNP

Maya Mortada

Director of Health Services, MSN, RN, CPNP

Maya Mortada is the director of health services at Zaman International and a practicing Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Henry Ford Health (HFH). She is currently contingent in the School Based and Community Health department at HFH serving Detroit public schools. Previous to her change in status at HFH, she was the lead nurse practitioner and supervisor at a clinic from 2014-2020. Maya started as the Director of Health in December of 2020, where she hopes to use her clinical skills to establish a charitable clinic and provide a full circle of holistic services to address the health needs of the clients being served.  Maya is also the founder and chair of the Faith Community Health Initiative, an initiative focused on addressing health concerns within a faith community setting. She is a member of the Interfaith Leadership Council health committee, member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and a guest lecturer at different universities presenting on the “Care of the Muslim Patient”. She believes in prevention and hopes to promote wellness to improve her patient’s quality of life. Maya is passionate about providing equitable care and reducing health disparities in the populations she serves.

Gigi Salka | Chief Workforce Officer

Gigi Salka

Chief Workforce Officer

Gigi leads BOOST (Building Ongoing Opportunities through Skills Training), which offers educational and vocational training in English literacy, workforce preparation, sewing and culinary arts as well as onsite employment opportunities. Her leadership was essential to developing and implementing the BOOST program, as she continues to work with workforce development partners to ensure client success. Gigi worked in finance at multiple international companies prior to joining the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a concentration in finance and marketing. In her spare time, Gigi enjoys exercising, especially hiking and cycling.

Gail Zion | Chief Operating Officer

Chief Operating Officer

Gail oversees operations interfacing with every aspect of the organization from donor relations to team management while working to deliver the mission in most benevolent way. Gail's service with Zaman began in 2007 with a desire to work for an organization that strives to make the world a better place. Her part-time administrator position quickly became more than full time and she thrives at being at the center of it all. Gail fully believes that service to others is the key to contentment. Prior to joining Zaman, Gail spent years in professional management, before taking time off to raise her three wonderful children. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Joan Walton | Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement

Joan Walton

Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement

Joan Walton holds both a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Education, Learning Design and Development from Wayne State University. She came to Zaman International in 2024 after more than 20 years working in Detroit non-profits and cultural organizations including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Belle Isle Conservancy and Gleaners Community Food Bank. Her expertise in community engagement and volunteer management as well as food security issues are truly an asset as Zaman continues to grow its outreach. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking and playing pickleball.
