Zaman transports safe drinking water to Flint residents

Zaman International this week assisted relief efforts in Flint by driving 120 cases of bottled water to the city, which is suffering from one of the nation’s worst public health crises.

The water was collected by the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Student Congress and driven to Flint by Zaman staff on Jan. 26. Monica Boomer, Zaman’s director of community engagement, said the water will be distributed by Flint-based St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center through its food pantry for high-need families. St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center has been a key partner in a number of Zaman initiatives, including the BOOST Sewing Program that Zaman launched earlier this month. St. Luke’s, which operates a learn-to-sew program and sewing social enterprise alongside its literacy program, was instrumental in helping Zaman implement best practices for sewing and literacy education in the new BOOST program.

The Zaman Run Team, a group of running enthusiasts who help promote awareness of Zaman and its programs, will be driving an additional two truckloads of water to Flint on Feb. 13. For information on how to help with the relief efforts, please contact Boomer at 313-551-3994.
